2018
life/first-bookwhere it started

First encounter with programming

Marcin Lis · Helion

C#. Praktyczny kurs — read cover to cover, with every example typed out by hand. The first time code stopped being magic: variables, loops, classes, and small console programs that actually ran.

The point where I decided to take the first steps towards becoming a programmer.

Signed up and started pushing: coursework, exercises and half-finished experiments. Everything after this point on the timeline has a commit history behind it.

Software Engineer Intern

Tech Sterowniki

First professional code — not firmware from scratch, but serial communication: shuttling bytes over basic protocols, plus a first taste of Python.

Computer Science, BSc

AGH University of Krakow

Three and a half years: imperative programming in C, then databases and operating systems, then computational methods and the fundamentals of artificial intelligence.

MyPrintiverse

.NET MAUI · group project

A mobile notebook for 3D-printer filaments and spools, built with a small team. I wrote the filament module with search before the project stalled — early .NET MAUI was too rough to push further.

Blazor WASM · Go API · group project

A summer project with my friend Kamil after my second year — the first attempt at what became Senswave: connect to your MQTT brokers, add a device, and build its dashboard yourself.

Software Engineer Intern

Dassault Systèmes · Kraków

Into .NET properly: C# services, containerisation, CI/CD with Jenkins — and a first real brush with cloud-scale problems.

PSPixel

ARGB LED controller for Raspberry Pi Pico W

Started as a personal project alongside coursework, and still actively developed. MicroPython on a Pico W drives a WS2812B strip over four control channels — the enclosure button, MQTT, HTTP, and a browser-based installer. Currently running as a wall of hexagon panels above my desk.

Software Engineer

Dassault Systèmes · Kraków

Intern to full-time. Solving real problems: a slightly custom high-availability setup on PostgreSQL, queues and background work, performance tuning, and shipping features end to end — including introducing OpenTelemetry to the team.

BSc thesis — Senswave

AGH University of Krakow · Computer Science

A universal application for exposing the functionality of MQTT smart home devices. Instead of a driver per device, you describe a device's operations and the app builds the interface for them.

edu/pw/msc10 · Year 1

Computer Science, MSc

Warsaw University of Technology

A master's alongside a full-time job, going deeper into web application development, managing and designing software projects, and the physics behind the hardware — transistors, storage. Due to finish in 2027.

Senswave 1.0 on Google Play

The thesis that did not stop at the defence

A .NET backend with PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ and a server-side MQTT connection. The React Native app receives live device state over SignalR.

PSPixel v1.1 — first usable release

Two years after the first commit

The side project finally caught up to itself: a packaged release you can actually flash and run, not just source you build yourself.

What is next

More devices for Senswave, more things off the printer, and a master's thesis to write.
